Getting Started for New Countertops

Here’s everything you need to know to be prepared for each stage of the new countertop process with Gothic Stone.

Preparing for Your First Gothic Stone Appointment

Before your scheduled appointment with one of our Gothic Stone team members, there are key steps you can take to ensure a smooth and accurate process:

Bring Measurements

Measure the length of your countertop’s back wall and the dimensions of your island. Some find it helpful to create a sketch with these dimensions to get the most accurate pricing.

Bring Pictures

Share pictures of your existing project and any design inspiration you have. These visuals help us understand your vision and simplify the stone selection process. Our in-house designers will work with you to find the best coordinating options.

Bring Samples

If your design incorporates new or existing elements, bring samples with you. Comparing these materials against the stone will streamline your decision-making process. This can include cabinet doors, floor tiles, backsplash tiles, or even paint samples. The more, the better.

Preparing for In-Home Measurements and Templating

When preparing for your template appointment, it’s important to have someone available at your home during this time who can answer questions, make decisions, and sign off on paperwork.

During the template appointment, final decisions regarding overhang, edge style, stone support, and more will be discussed and confirmed. To facilitate this process, ensure that your countertops are cleared of all items and appliances, so our team can create an accurate template.

If you plan to purchase new appliances (e.g., slide-in range, sink, cooktop, dishwasher), ensure they are in place or available at the time of the template. For farm sinks, they must be installed before the template because they are custom-built into cabinets rather than attached to the countertop. Additionally, make sure your cabinetry is leveled and installed during the template, ensuring a perfect fit. If brackets are necessary, they will also be discussed at this stage.

Installation Day

The day you’ve been eagerly awaiting! On the day of installation, remember the importance of plumbing. Ensure that your plumbing is disconnected before your scheduled appointment time to enable us to install your countertops. You can reconnect the plumbing 24 hours after the installation to allow the adhesive to dry and adhere properly.

Please note that we, at Gothic Stone, are not licensed to perform gas, plumbing, carpentry, or electrical work. However, we can recommend trusted plumbers and carpenters if needed. All necessary supports must be installed before the scheduled installation day. Appliances should be in place, and if you have a cooktop, it should be disconnected.

Don’t forget to clear paths of ice, snow, and debris at the job site before our arrival. Incomplete site preparation may lead to rescheduling and additional fees. If you have any questions, concerns, or encounter any challenges, please don’t hesitate to call us. We’re here to help provide a smooth installation.

After the installation, inspect your countertops immediately, and if there’s anything to report, please document it in the notes of the paperwork or call us for timely resolution. We remain available to assist you long after your countertops are installed.

At Gothic Stone, we’re dedicated to ensuring your countertop journey is a seamless and satisfying experience from start to finish.
